“Yi As Akh Padshah Bai”
(There was a Queen…)
105 minutes/ India/ 2007
Kashmiri/Urdu/Hindi/English with English subtitles

“Give us guns and we’ll play our role!” - These are not the words of a hardened criminal, these are the words of a teenaged girl in Kashmir less than a week after her sister was buried.

Farha’s sister Shahnaza, and her friend, Ulfat, victims of‘crossfire’, would have been adult women today - they were barelyseventeen when they died, as old as the tehreek, the movement, thatexploded into existence in 1989, shattering forever the peace of theValley, and turning it into one of the most critical conflict zones inthe world.

Invitation to Partners in Production

This is an invitation to you to participate in the production of a documentary film on Adivasi/indigenous people who live in Wynad, Kerala. The Wynad Adivasi people have been made to work as migrant workers by their employers in the neighbouring states to cultivate Ginger. The work is so hazardous and exploitative that there are unofficial reported deaths of more than 200 Adivasis in the last ten years! Many women and children too have been reported to have died! The exploitation of these adivasi people from Wynad whohave been employed in ginger cultivation is still going unabated.  In reality the problem is ever increasing and as the cultivation spreads toother geographical areas including Western India, like Goa and Maharashtra apart from the known ginger fields of Coorg, Hassan and Shimoga in Karnataka. Sexual exploitation of women workers and torture are abundantly reported among the adivasi migrant labour population.

Newsflash
In memory of Sarat Chandran

With great pain we inform you the passing away of our friend and documentary filmmaker Sarat Chandran on 31 March 2010 in a train accident near Chalakudi, Kerala.

Sarat has shown us the significant role a film maker plays in social change and how powerful a camera can be as an agent of such change. Untiringly he had screened documentaries throughout the length and breadth of Kerala about several socio- political issues. He was an activist, a filmmaker who was an inspiration and a great support for all individuals and organizations that screened issue-based documentaries across the country. He has reached out to many both through the medium of movies and with his most democratic personal politics. Surely we are facing a big void with Sarat's passing away; especially during the most troubling times we are living in.
